Gisela Restrepo is a trilingual filmmaker and editor based in Toronto with 10+ years experience working in film and television. She started her career as a freelance camera operator, director, and producer creating content for institutions such as the CSN, La Caisse Desjardins, and Montreal City Hall, as well as other cultural, social, and political actors of Montreal. From 2009 to 2016, in addition to completing a master's degree in visual arts at the University of Québec in Montreal, she worked on a dozen livestreamed events from concerts and protests, to large conferences including the Global Social Economic Forum.

In 2013, she moved from live events and freelancing to television and documentary. This work included editing several projects for filmmakers in Canada, Colombia, and France, as well as TV series for MATV and BellFIBE TV 1, music videos, promotional videos, trailers, short movies, and short and feature documentaries. In addition to editing, she worked as a camera assistant on sets for National Geographic, CNN and CBC. Her many years of experience both behind the camera and in the edit suite have established her as a versatile and dynamic editor able to combine multiple storytelling and artistic techniques for the creation of highly engaging video content.

In 2017, she began working on her own documentaries, completing her first short, Aging Without my Children. Her work explores topics such as exile and collective memory where she has a particular interest in using archival material to tell the stories of those walking paths of grief, resilience, and resistance. Her first feature documentary, Under Silence and Earth (2021), was awarded both a Canada Council for the Arts grant and an Ontario Arts Council fellowship. It premiered at MIDBO in Bogotá, RIDM in Montreal, and toured for a year in Europe and South America.
